Meet TIP – Together It’s Possible

Wellspring Holistic Center will hold an Open House and Art Sale, at its East Stroudsburg location, on December 1st from 4pm-8pm and December 2nd from 10am -3pm.

Our healing center will be filled with beautiful hand made crafts. Peruse our treatment rooms while sipping tea and savoring homemade, gluten free, sugar free treats. It promises to be your most relaxed shopping of this holiday season.

Today meet artists, TIP- Together It’s Possible

1. Please give us three words to describe your creations?

All our art creations are made from glass, much recycled. They are gifts for you, home made with love by artists with intellectual disabilities and autism.

2.. what can we look forward to you creating for this sale?

We have created serving dishes, vases, glasses and cutting boards all from recycled wine bottles. We will also be selling journals from handcrafted paper using our fused glass. Also, night lights made from our fused glass.

3. what about this particular art/craft makes you feel passionate and excited?

This work is done side by side created by those living with disabilities and those who love them. We work in an open side by side studio and create beautiful art together.

 4. when you are not making art, where are you most likely to be?

Many of the young people of TIP work at Kirkridge Retreat Center and that is where the glass studio is as well!

5. do you have one quote or saying that you are living by these days?

We live by “together it’s possible” advocating for change – in access, in opportunities and in outmoded ways of thinking.

Sunday Invitation

You are cordially invited to

STOP

Take this Sunday to turn off:

the news

your computer

the voices in your head

Here is a quote to move into Sunday stillness ~

As i walked down the avenue, the late afternoon sun was turning the lovely and dying sycamore leaves into fragments of brilliant stained glass, and i said to myself, “This alone is worth the price of admission to our broken and glorious world.”

And a picture to get lost in ~

Meet Margie Cohen

Today meet artist, Margie Cohen

1. Please give us three words to describe your creations?

fun, colorful, functional

2.. what can we look forward to you creating for this sale?

I’m working on a new line of porcelain tableware inspired by nature and destined to be your “reach for it every time” favorite. I wheel form simple elegant shapes from white porcelain and use a watercolor technique with colorful underglazes to decorate mugs, bowls, pitchers, and teapots. I think of it as “Happy-ware”

3. what about this particular art/craft makes you feel passionate and excited?

Painting (in lots of styles an mediums) is my passion. Over the years I have painted on paper, canvas, glass, wood, stoneware and now porcelain. Every mug, every bowl seems like a 3 dimensional canvas waiting for an original painting.

 4. when you are not making art, where are you most likely to be?

I might be holding a grand child, knitting for a grandchild, painting a grandchild’s portrait, flipping pancakes for grandchildren, …. well, you get the idea.

5. do you have one quote or saying that you are living by these days?

“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment”

poems to myself- 57-take 3

we are all trying to hide
something
money
bad behavior
an extra roll
of flesh around the waist
when everyone is
doing it
how do we convince
anyone that it is
not going to make
this world
better
less insane
nothing will heal this way
not the earth
not us
my sister in law says
that she hears when we destroy
this planet
we will just inhabit another
like Mars
or the Moon
i watch a squirrel bury
nuts in a pot on my back porch
he is hiding something
too
late Fall and the flowers seem to have
forgotten to die
or maybe they
are staging a coup
resist
choose something
different
no hiding
even your expanding waistline
bloom right out in the open
stop apologizing
shun the seasonal appropriateness
of anything
boldly shine
kindess on everyone
your true colors
are
welcome
here.

poems to myself – 18

today i will drive

a lot
i will go to visit an
old friend
who will turn
81 tomorrow
we will sit and talk
about the dog, her relatives that never call,
and what the doctor thinks he can do
about her pain
then, i will head to my parents
both close to 80 themselves
we will share a meal
say the rosary together
go to a prayer meeting
this is what they do
and i agree to do it with them
because
it just makes sense
i will say my own prayer of gratitude
today for being able to drive
and another one
for all the women in Saudi Arabia
who cannot drive
because it might
hurt their ovaries
and maybe i will even thank my own
ovaries
because they are shriveling up
with age and lack of use
i will thank them for what might have been
and
bless them for what was
i will sit in church
next to my mom
welcome in the silence
the sitting with all of this
grit and grace
the pause to remember
that this life calls us
by many names
and reveals many faces
some i will recognize over and over
again
some will come and others go
and all the while my feet will walk on
holy ground
each time i open my car door
and arrive
there will be
communion offered
all i have to do is walk forward
say Amen
take the gift in my hands
place it in my mouth
and
swallow.

Poems to Myself -3

remember this,
write it on the
palm
of your day:
the clouds will always
have your back
so will your sister
and brother
the couch will forever
be stained
with love
and
loss
you will like wearing
heels
most days
but your feet
will want to touch
the ground
every
moment
so that you remember
this life
as
precious
and each person
walking
as
god.

Saturday poem

there is a lot of talk

today

about
nuclear
threats
about what there is
to be
afraid
for
such as:
your life
everyday i stand
up and
speak
out
the other threats
that keep me up
at night:
infected
  pigs
chickens
toxic
air
thoughts
what is there to fear
if not
what has gotten us
to this
point
he said he drank a
liter of Dr. Pepper
a day
she said she crushes
him with her words
almost daily
they say that
the family system
is failing
them
not the school system
there are women running
some countries
and some armies
today i learned that
they teach
imagination
and
think
that
creativity
is the
new
peace.
