1. Please give us three words to describe your creations?

Intricate.  Colorful.  Inspirational.  Soothing.  Oops, that’s four words.

2.. what can we look forward to you creating for this sale?

Three new basket series.  Seagrass baskets with beads.  Modeled on the Native American philosophy that “every bead is a prayer.”  Coiled baskets that are seagrass over wire.  I’ve been working on these for years, but wasn’t ready to show them.  Wire baskets.  Same thing.  These span several years of work, but I needed enough of them to make it look cohesive.

3. what about this particular art/craft makes you feel passionate and excited?

Even though I haven’t done a new mandala in over a year, I still connect with their messages, and feel connected when I look at them.  Hopefully others feel the same.  And I just love making baskets.  I can get lost for hours when I’m weaving.  I feel that it is so healing for me to do them and that lends them power and presence.  To me, they are little totems.

 4. when you are not making art, where are you most likely to be?

Spending time outside when the weather allows.  Working on the house.

5. do you have one quote or saying that you are living by these days?

I just read this quote in Art in America the other day.  Though I can’t say that I’m living by it, it struck me as inspirational and timely.  It is by an African American artist name of Leslie Hewitt.  She says, “Like many artists, I’m always working to find and continually refine a form of address, one that will aid in developing an idea from an immaterial status in my mind to a material existence as art.  The process often starts out incongruent and irrational, and then goes through stages of logic.  This imposed logic comes from my desire for structures that can help make sense of the chaotic nature of living.”

All our art creations are made from glass, much recycled. They are gifts for you, home made with love by artists with intellectual disabilities and autism.

We have created serving dishes, vases, glasses and cutting boards all from recycled wine bottles. We will also be selling journals from handcrafted paper using our fused glass. Also, night lights made from our fused glass.

3. what about this particular art/craft makes you feel passionate and excited?

This work is done side by side created by those living with disabilities and those who love them. We work in an open side by side studio and create beautiful art together.

 4. when you are not making art, where are you most likely to be?

Many of the young people of TIP work at Kirkridge Retreat Center and that is where the glass studio is as well!

5. do you have one quote or saying that you are living by these days?

We live by “together it’s possible” advocating for change – in access, in opportunities and in outmoded ways of thinking.

Sunday Invitation

You are cordially invited to

STOP

Take this Sunday to turn off:

the news

your computer

the voices in your head

Here is a quote to move into Sunday stillness ~

As i walked down the avenue, the late afternoon sun was turning the lovely and dying sycamore leaves into fragments of brilliant stained glass, and i said to myself, “This alone is worth the price of admission to our broken and glorious world.”

Today meet artist, Margie Cohen

1. Please give us three words to describe your creations?

fun, colorful, functional

2.. what can we look forward to you creating for this sale?

I’m working on a new line of porcelain tableware inspired by nature and destined to be your “reach for it every time” favorite. I wheel form simple elegant shapes from white porcelain and use a watercolor technique with colorful underglazes to decorate mugs, bowls, pitchers, and teapots. I think of it as “Happy-ware”

3. what about this particular art/craft makes you feel passionate and excited?

Painting (in lots of styles an mediums) is my passion. Over the years I have painted on paper, canvas, glass, wood, stoneware and now porcelain. Every mug, every bowl seems like a 3 dimensional canvas waiting for an original painting.

 4. when you are not making art, where are you most likely to be?

I might be holding a grand child, knitting for a grandchild, painting a grandchild’s portrait, flipping pancakes for grandchildren, …. well, you get the idea.

5. do you have one quote or saying that you are living by these days?

“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment”
