Roxanne Rogers

Age: 57

Years doing Pilates: 7

Why did you start doing Pilates?

curiosity- heard about it in the media and was into fitness

How do you see it impacting your daily life?

it has taught me how important my core is. i believe a strong core is the secret to a strong body and keeping my body in alignment. it has helped my knee tremendously!

What inspires you on the mat?

how much stronger and more flexible i have become. i used to think lifting heavy weights as the way to build muscle. using my own body weight and holding plank pose has created muscles that are leaner and i feel stronger. weight workouts are still good, however i mix them up with my Pilates and have less strain and injury.

What inspires you off the mat?

God first. Then all of the ladies and guys that i do Pilates with!

3 words you live by:

  1. treat others better than you treat yourself
  2. search for some form of joy every day.
  3. look for some sort of physical challenge to push your body. “Age is just a number”

Pilates – profiles of inspiration

I may be a bit biased. I think Pilates is one of the best workouts one can do. I have been certified and teaching Pilates based classes since the 90’s and have experienced so many benefits: improved posture (my mom used to always accuse me of not standing up straight), an end to chronic back pain (seriously, I used to be bed ridden at times), and the ability to breathe deeply, consistently on a daily basis (that may not seem like a big deal, but pay attention to your own breathing and let me know what you find).

Read more about Pilates here.

My Monday night ongoing class is full of aging bodies that defy the notion that we cannot get stronger, leaner, and more agile as we age.

For the next few weeks I will be featuring some of my students. Enjoy meeting them on “paper” and then consider joining us in the studio and meet them in person. First class is always FREE!

Blessed Summer Solstice

Summer-Solstice-StonehengeThis is the Solstice Sunrise at Stonehenge  in England.

Tonight in our part of the world the Summer Solstice will officially arrive at 6:34pm. EDT

Read all about the heavens and the planets effecting us right now courtesy of my dear friend, astrologer, Melissa Stratton. She is amazing!

If you would like to celebrate locally, there will be a Summer Solstice ritual tonight at Wellspring Holistic Center’s Main St. Stroudsburg, PA location beginning at 7:30pm.

We use movement, mindfulness, and music.

We access our inner world to enliven our day to day living.

We witness one another.

We celebrate the new season and our place within it.

We welcome you to join us.
